My MAC Experience

I walked into my local MAC store in Union Square, NYC.
Michelle flashed her perfectly painted eyelids at me. “So what are you looking for today?” She has a makeup belt filled with tools and brushes and she was ready to make me over. I told her that she was in charge and to do as she pleased.

It can be somewhat intimidating to walk into MAC. Everyone there is very cool and hip and I feel like they are analyzing me. But Michelle made me feel very comfortable. I was getting a consultation and a makeup lesson

Michelle was already getting the cosmetics she would use on me.. Her desired color for my eyes: red. I had told her to do what she wanted, but I didn’t like this color decided to tell her.
I told her I wanted to try olive green eye shadow. But Michelle had no problem changing the color. In fact, MAC insists on having its artists be fun and able to change course, and keeps them able to make changes mid course. For example, if a customer says, please change my color! Then they will. This approach has been part of what has made MAC so successful.

I loved my new color! They usually will make up ½ of your face and teach you what they are doing so that you can do the other ½ yourself, and the idea is that you will be able to duplicate the results when you get home. So he taught me exactly what she was doing and had me mimic the technique on my other eye. After what he taught me, I do believe that I will be able to duplicate the results at home.

Of course they help you learn to do your makeup in part to be able to push products. However, she just wrote down the product names for me because I wasn’t quite ready to buy at the time. She told me not to feel any pressure. MAC doesn’t pay on commission, so their makeup artists can focus on bonding with the customer, and not be stressed about making the sale.

After my experience, I felt (and looked) great. I will definitely go back to MAC Cosmetics and I did end up buying some eyeliner. I love MAC and can’t wait to try out their new product line that just came out. I would recommend you go in for a consultation and see what they can do for you- they have every color in the rainbow of lip gloss, lip stick and eye shadow, so they must have something for you.
